The JSerra Boys Lacrosse team put forth a strong and determined effort Friday, but ultimately saw their season come to a difficult end, as the Lions were defeated by the Foothill Knights 10-5 in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs at Foothill High.
The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period, but the Lions had the answer in the second period.
Sophomore Cob Sprague scored three goals in the period, while fellow sophomore Asher Stevenson added a goal.
Sprague’s third goal of the period, off a great assist by sophomore Mason Stephens, tied the game with under a minute remaining in the first half and the game remained deadlocked at halftime.
Foothill scored early in the third period to take a 5-4 lead, but Stevenson answered two minutes later with his second goal of the game to tie the contest at 5-5.
But the Knights defense stiffened from that point forward, holding the Lions off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
Foothill took a 7-5 lead into the final period and scored three goals to seal their trip to the semifinals.
JSerra finishes the season with a 17-3 record.
