The JSerra Girls Swimming team team came out of Tuesday’s Trinity League Preliminaries at Santa Margarita Catholic High School looking like a team ready for some high-quality accomplishments in Friday’s finals. Lions junior Sydney Willson is in position for her third straight league title in the 500 free, as she was the top qualifier (4:58.98) and the only competitor to record a sub-5:00 qualifying race. Freshman Claire Wilson will be the top entrant in the 200IM, as she won her qualifying race in a time of 2:019.16. Junior Ava Withey produced a CIF consideration mark in the 200 free, clocking a time of 1:51.78. Sophomore Gabby Elbaz earned two new CIF consideration times in both the 100 breast (1:11.13) and the 500 free (5:21.77). Lions head coach Kevin Clements expressed satisfaction with his team’s results heading into the finals. “There were good preliminary results,” Clements said. “We fought hard at the end of our races, out-touching competitors to qualify for finals.”
