The JSerra Girls Water Polo team is moving on in the CIF postseason, as the Lions took to the road and defeated the Yucaipa Thunderbirds 19-11 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs Wednesday evening at Yucaipa High. The victory improved the Lions record to 17-8 on the season. JSerra led 7-2 after the first period, and though the Thunderbirds narrowed the lead to 10-7 at the intermission, the Lions outscored Yucaipa 9-4 in the second half to seal the win. Sophomore Sloane Paulson scored six goals to pace the Lions attack, with fellow sophomore Kamryn McCord scoring five goals. Junior Payton Netherton added three goals. Senior Sydney Chapman tallied two scores and freshman Victoria Williams also added a goal. The Lions will host Harvard-Westlake in a second-round game on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
