The JSerra Boys Basketball team fell short in their first game of Pool B play in the CIF-SS Open Division Playoffs, as the No. 7 seeded Lions were defeated by No. 2 seed Roosevelt 64-51 on Friday night at Roosevelt High. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for JSerra, which is now 24-5 overall on the season. The Lions trailed by one after the first quarter, but Roosevelt closed the second quarter strong to take a 36-27 lead into halftime. JSerra battled back in the third quarter, holding the Mustangs to only seven points, and cutting the deficit to 43-39 heading into final quarter. But Roosevelt enjoyed a 21-12 scoring advantage in the fourth to put the game away and seize the victory. Senior Sebastian Rancik led the Lions with 13 points and seven rebounds. Fellow senior Diego Martinez added 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior Ben Rabara scored nine points.
