Modesto, CA — The Pitman Cross Country teams competed in their second league meet of the year today. The Boys Varsity and Frosh-Soph teams both placed third, while the Frosh-Soph girls placed 4th. However, the big story of the day was the Varsity girls team who finished tied with cross-town rivals Turlock for 1st place. As the team waited anxiously to find out what happens if two teams tie, word came in that the tie breaker in scoring goes to the team’s 6th runner. The girls scanned the results and realized that Pitman’s Kayla Thompson finished two seconds ahead of Turlock’s 6th runner. Those 2 seconds secured the victory for the Pride, putting them one step closer to a league title. After finishing 1st in both CCAL races this year, they will need at least a 2nd place finish at CCAL #3 to be crowned champions. Great job to all of the athletes today. Next up is the Rough Rider Invitational and the Hughson Super Cross meet next week.
