Mancelona, MI — The Caledonia boys ski team continues to build momentum leading into their conference championship race and regionals with a solid 5th place finish. The ski team competed Monday in the Clare Invitational, an 11 team meet featuring some great teams from around the state. The meet was held on the Face at Schuss Mountain. "I am extremely proud of how well our guys skied today. The GS course was pretty rough and our skiers handled it very well. The morning session really set the tone for a lot of teams and for us it put us ahead of some of our conference rivals and helped put our team in the top half of the field of teams." Coach Petrosky "My upper class men really skied well today. I saw some of the best racing of the year from DJ Potgeter, Brayden Smith, Ben Diegel and Cohen Broomfield and my younger skiers showed a lot of growth today too!" Featured in the 11 teams were Hudsonville and the Plainwell TK Co-op, both teams stayed in the South West Michigan Ski Conference while Caledonia move to the Lake Michigan Ski Conference. DJ Potgeter medaled in both events (9th GS and 15th SL), Brayden Smith medaled in GS and placed 21st in slalom, Ben Diegel placed 28th GS & 37th SL, Cohen Broomfield placed 34th in slalom and sophomore Peter Calhoun scored his first varsity points in GS with a 32nd place finish. The Scots next races are Wednesday with a morning race and afternoon race at Crystal Mountain to wrap up the Lake Michigan Ski Conference schedule. Following the races there will be an awards ceremony in the Northwest Territories room at Crystal Mountain.
