West Frankfort, IL — The Carterville boys cross country team took a young squad to the West Frankfort Invitational and placed sixth out of 12 teams. Senior Rowan Beyke led the way with an impressive fifth-place overall finish in 17:08. Freshman Ashby Stottler was the team’s second finisher, followed by sophomore Cannon Cervantez, junior Mitchell Carsrud, and freshman Lane Sykes to round out the top five scorers for the Lions. “The varsity team will be running in Peoria this weekend, so this was a great chance for our younger guys to step up and show what they can do against varsity competition,” said Coach Adams. On the girls’ side, Carterville didn’t have enough runners to score as a full team, but they were well-represented by sophomore Isabella Dion, who led the way for the Lions, followed closely by freshmen Rose Balmforth and Bella Seever.
