Walnut, CA — What a great 3 days of racing we had last week. Several PRs at the league meet (which is hard to do when there is very little competition! It was mainly an NPHS time trial because OC was resting a lot of runners). And unbelievably good racing at the Mt. SAC Relays!! Although I sum up the distance side of things, special shout out to Jaden Griffn who broke his own 100m school record and the 200m school record. Our 4x400 team also won the seeded heat with a 3:17, breaking the school record (that’s a 49.25 average per runner to put it into perspective). Kaia (pole vaulter; Seeded Flight) took 2nd, and distance runners ran amazing. What a weekend to be a Panther! Made my 16-hour day on Saturday totally worth it! Let’s get to the stats: League meet @ Oaks Christian Andrew Evans - 800m PR of 2:41; 1600m PR of 5:55 Arhan Shetty - 800m PR of 2:32; 1600m PR of 5:28 Ben Joiner – 800m PR of 2:08 Chad Darden - 800m PR of 2:48 Declan Pellegrino - 800m PR of 2:34; 1600m PR of 5:29 Emma Kilgore – 800m PR of 2:53 Halle Combe – 800m PR of 2:33 Jacob Pacheco – 800m PR of 2:13 Javan Pelascini - 1600m PR of 4:30 Joseph Pollack - 800m PR of 2:37 Kanen Crosby – 1600m PR of 4:52 Karina York – 1600m PR of 5:38 Kevin Cruz – 800m PR of 2:14 Matt Dorsi – 800m PR of 2:12 Nick Gould – 800m PR of 2:28 Paul Goetze – 1600m PR of 4:26 Paul Kamboj – 3200m PR of 11:06 Rohin Niraula - 800m PR of 3:09 Zach Harris - 800m PR of 2:32; 1600m PR of 5:25 Paul Goetze now moves to #4 all-time fastest 1600m frosh in school history behind some pretty elite company in Colin Sahlman, Leo Young, and Aaron Sahlman. He is the #9 ranked frosh in California and #29 ranked frosh nationally in the 1600m. Congrats, Paul! Mt. SAC Relays were a big success as we ran very well. Our 4x800 girls of Ella, Victoria, Zara, and Sophia kicked off the meet on Friday night in the Invitational Heat, taking 12th en route to running the 4th fastest time in school history. I forgot to write down splits, but I remember that Ella was about 2 seconds faster than her PR and the other girls were all right around their top marks of the season. Great race. Sophia followed up her incredible 4x800 anchor leg the next morning with a new PR in the Seeded Heat of the 800m, running 2:13.11 and taking 2nd place. She improved her mark as the 3rd fastest 800m time in school history. Our boys 4x800 team of Jude, Dylan, Eli, and Javan ran in the evening Seeded Heat, taking 8th place with the 2nd fastest time in school history. Jude ran 2:05.7, Dylan a 2:03.6, Eli a 1:54.9, and Javon a 1:58.3. After a bit of rest, Jude and Eli were back up for the 4x1600 in the Seeded Heat along with Graham and Paul. All boys were at or faster than their open PR times. Jude led off with a 4:34, Graham followed with a 4:33, Paul split a 4:38, and Eli anchored with a 4:20, closing with a 60 second last lap! That moved the boys up to 3rd place for the heat. Thank you to Coach Kris for this detailed write-up. :)
