Niceville, FL — NICEVILLE β€” Harrison Orr was incredulous as he approached the Eagles sideline and the sea of looming helmet slaps and attaboys. "They threw at me?" said the 6-foot-1 sophomore safety, who on the night delivered two interceptions, a fumble recovery scoop and score and a touchdown-saving tackle. Lincoln did indeed. The visiting Trojans threw at Tyler Powell. Interception. They threw at Azaryeh Thomas. Interception. They threw at Orr. Well, read above. Lincoln, armed with the swagger of a program that finished 7-2 in 2020 and three years ago beat Niceville on their home field before late vacating the win, didn't get the memo that you don't throw on Niceville. The visiting Trojans (0-1) learned the hard way in Friday's humbling 35-17 loss that featured six turnovers and no answer for Orr or quarterback Addie Moore, who connected with Khalil Jacobs for a 53-yard score and added two rushing touchdowns in his debut under center at a jam-packed Eagle Stadium. This was supposed to be a test for Niceville. A barometer if you will. Instead, the Eagles (1-0) reinforced what they already knew and made a playoff team look pedestrian. Stat of the Night: 18 You know the last time Niceville lost a regular season game? That'd be Nov. 2, 2018, when the Eagles lost 38-13 to Navarre at home. Ever since they've won 18 straight under the tutelage of Grant Thompson, whose Eagles simply don't lose in August, September or October. Not even an hour-long lightning delay could disrupt their rhythm. Offensive MVP: Addie Moore Moore entered with all the praise and hype of a dual-threat quarterback. After gutting out a 14-play, six-minute opening drive with five hard-fought carries and a grueling 1-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal, he knew it'd be a good night. But also a physical one. He'd go on to complete 7-of-10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown and tote the rock 18 times for 63 rushing yards and two touchdowns. "I'm ready for it. I love that stuff," he said of his rushing workload. "That's a good team we played right there and we just physically beat them. We didn't try to do anything crazy, didn't try to trick them in any way. We just came and played better than them and physically beat them." Moore definitely sounds the part of a leader. "I just think we all came together and played strong," he said. "I think everybody played great. We definitely have some stuff to work on, but overall it was a great team win. I'm happy to be here, great debut and let's just keep it rolling." Thompson, who groomed back-to-back Players of the Year Will Koch and Trey Wainwright, said Moore hasn't even scratched his potential yet. "Addie's going to get better and better," he said. "He's his own guy. He's a a good runner, he's a good leader, he's a hard-nosed kid. I'm proud of the way he play composed and led us." The other offensive touchdown went to Thomas, who followed up his pick with an 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make it 28-3 in the third quarter. Defensive MVP: Harrison Orr All apologies to Austin Firestone, Thomas and Powell, each of whom delivered turnovers in the win, but Orr was the breakout start of the night. Once considered just a backup quarterback, Orr made the move to strong safety after playing the position a bit in middle school. Good move. The first of Orr's three turnovers came on an airmail from Perry at the goal line in the second quarter. "He's a good athlete, a big-time athlete," Thompson said. "He was right there in the quarterback job and he's going to be a big-time player for us. He was flying around and making plays. He was making plays in his first start." The second forced turnover came later in the second quarter on a fumble recovery at Lincoln's 26. Orr scooped up the gift, broke an initial tackle and tiptoed the right sideline to the house while shaking off two more tackles to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead. "I'm just an athlete that can make plays on the field," Orr said. The third came in the fourth quarter with the Eagles leading 35-10. Orr spied the quarterback's eyes and simply jumped a route to seal the win. Surrounded by Thomas, Jayden Sheppard and Powell, Orr said this group is as deep and talented as it gets. "We created four turnovers in the secondary and this group is as good as last year, maybe better than last year," he said. "We have more speed and we're bigger, so together we can be great." Quotable "That's a really good Lincoln team that's going to have a good year. Go Eagles." 🏈 - Grant Thompson with respect for the program he called home before Niceville.
