Irvine, CA — The Lions competed in the premier high school tournament of the season today, college style format against University HS, Woodbridge HS [both Irvine schools] and Los Osos from the inland empire. KOach Kirk notes, " We don't usually get an invite to this, usually to fill in for a late cancel/no show, but, are working hard to become a permanent fixture in this event; right now, we are just in the 'rent-to-own' category. Uni took it to us hard, 0-8, Woodbridge 1-7 and we split 2 doubles matches with Los Osos before darkness took its toll. MVP of the day was Zach Champine who was victorious in 2 separate doubles matches, vs Woodbridge with Gary Davidson, then with Aiden German vs Los Osos. Zach had a great tiebreaker loss to Champion Okey at line #2 vs Uni... he and Gary's comeback tiebreak win at line#1 with Woodbridge was a really great match. Brady Schaefgen played some great doubles points and Aiden, who is still playing Rugby came on strong in the last doubles set win. "I saw some really good doubles points today, don't think we were outmatched there. Other than Zach's singles match vs University, we were a little overpowered today. But, we will continue to enter events of this format, until we get it right!" The match vs Los Osos will go down as cancelled as only 2 of 8 matches were able to be played. Thank you to the parents who traveled to watch us compete today! GO LIONS !
