Santa Ana, CA — The Lions took to the road today, traveling to Santa Ana to play the team they beat in the 2022 CIF D2 Championships last November. The outcome was even better in the rematch, 11 to 7 for JSerra. Foothill lost one good singles player from last year and we gained one, Scarlett Vukich, this was the difference. Much to the dismay of their coaches, Scarlett started at line #1 today and narrowly lost a long tiebreaker set to the Knights #1 player, a girl no one on our team could beat, either time we played them last year. (We lost to them 12-6 early in the preseason at home). This removed the wind from HER sail and also the rest of her teammates; especially when this player rotated down to Halle Parker who opened up a can of 6-2 whup. Halle had never beaten this girl over the years in tournament play, Scarlett gets an assist! KOach had figured on 6 points for singles and 6 points for doubles and we came close. Scarlett and Jazmine both played awesome with close losses to the line #2 player, both victorious vs line #3. Halle swept all 3 earning her MVP honors for the day. Since we were close to Disneyland, one of the '7 Dwarfs', "Sneezy" decided to fill in and played with Sophie adding 2 sets to the tally. Seriously, I don't know how Kylie even competed today with allergies that bad. She went through a commercial-sized pack of Kleenex, sneezed a century and got 'blessed' for everyone from adjacent courts! Elise and Gabbi came back from behind in every set to sweep all 3, earning them MVP's as well. Anna and Aerin added the 6th point I was counting on in doubles. Congratulations! These girls worked hard all week, 3 matches and some are playing Saturday. But, you win today gives you a well-earned day off tomorrow for the entire program! I will be out there, though, if anyone wants to hit before the football game, open courts from 3-4 GO LIONS!
