Huntington Beach, CA — It was another hot day for tennis today! The Huntington Beach Oilers travelled to San Juan Capistrano to take on our Lions frosh/soph teams A and C. The first round started out with wins from our #2 doubles and #3 doubles teams going into the second round trailing 2-4. The wins in round one came from Faith and Alex playing in the number two spot and Peyton and Molly in the number 3 spot. In the second round, our Lions faced a tough battle against our opponents with JSerra losing all 6 sets. In the final round, Elliana and Peyton pulled out a win in the #3 spot against the number one team in a tie-breaker winning 6-5 with a tie break score of 7-0! Madison and Faith brought the second and final win in the number two position against Huntington Beaches #3 team. Honorable mention with close matches includes Abby G. and Bry playing the #1 position against the #3 team losing in a tiebreaker. As well as Aurora and Viana playing in the #4 position losing the tiebreaker against the #5 team in the third round. All in all, despite the final score being 4-14, our Lions fought hard, had fun, survived the heat, and continued to grow in teamwork and skill! Peyton Salas gets MVP Honors this afternoon, winning both sets played at Line 3 doubles. She teamed w Molly Harrington in round 1, and then defeated the top HB doubles team in a tie-breaker in round 2. Faith Blower gets MVP Honors this afternoon, winning both sets played at Line 2 doubles. She teamed w Alexandra Marsh in round 1, and then defeated HB’s #3 doubles team in round 2 with partner Maddy Valente. Next up: Friday, Sept. 9th, home vs Newport Harbor, 2:30pm.
