Seymour, CT — Newtown High School's girls' soccer team began the season with a win, going on the road and blanking Seymour 4-0 in a nonconference clash on September 8. Riley Powers, Brooke Jackson, Sydney Oltran, and Bella Gerace scored for Newtown. Goalkeepers Ryann Heim-Sherwood and Penelope Warren combined to make three saves for the shutout. The Nighthawks traveled to Portsmouth, R.I. two days later and earned a 1-1 tie. Lola Kessler scored for Newtown and Heim-Sherwood stopped six shots. Newtown went to Brookfield on September 13 and played the defending South-West Conference champions to 0-0 tie.
