Nekoosa, WI — The Tomahawk nine is still in search of their first win of 2023 after falling short three times during the week of April 10th. Tuesday (4/10) saw the Hatchets jump to a quick 1-0 lead at Nekoosa in a game moved from Tyler Kahle Field due to field conditions. Second baseman Brayden Larson walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Tyler Jablonski. The Papermakers would answer in the bottom of the frame, however, scoring seven runs with the first eight hitters reaching consecutively. The lead would expand to 11-1 as Nekoosa posted a single run in the second and three in the third. The Hatchets fought back in the top of the fifth inning, plating three runs. Centerfielder Zach Friske walked, went to second after Brody Rigney, who came on in relief on the mound to start the third inning, was hit by a pitch. Three pitches later, pinch hitter Landon Hoff drove both in with a double, and he scored on a hit by third baseman Grant Albrecht. Nekoosa answered again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and ended the game by run rule one inning later. Rigney covered the final three innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs, while Addison Peissig and Rigney contributed the other Hatchet hits.
