San Juan Capistrano, CA — Recap Mater dei Frosh oct 29 Close doesn’t come close. The Frosh played a double header today, 1 squad traveled to Aliso Niguel while the other hosted Mater Dei. The Lions were looking to redeem themselves from a 9-9 [73-76 game count, kind of] loss. We kept very good track [kind of] but came up short in the set count. JQPublic looks at an 8-10 score and says, oh, they lost by 2… but we know otherwise. Had we tied them 9-9, the Lions would have won this match 9 – 9 [79-72 games]. The elusive 9th set was not to be found though as Mater Dei was able to win 2 decisive tiebreakers and also, to hard-fought 6-4 sets. One of these longer tiebreakers had the Lions serving at match point, but, the Monarchs fought us off. Soooo, this match could have been won with 2 little points… AND these little points that lead to games, no-ad games, came from ALL 18 sets played today, not just 1 or 2 matches; they ALL add up in the end! Imagine losing a CIF ring in this manner; it’s happened to our boy's team 2 times ☹ We were looking forward to going out winning both of these matches today and almost accomplished that. Losing to the 'red'team and 'blue' team is especially not fun! The bottom portion of the Lions group today was able to put 6 sets in our column and this is where the MVPs came from Faith and Molly up top, took 2 sets, while Maddy with Alex, Ella with Peyton and Elliana all picked up 2 sets in the 4-5-6 rotation. [more about them in the MVP section. Anyway, this was our best Frosh team ever and the coaches are VERY optimistic about the future of this program!
