Fitchburg, MA — Wachusett played a young, struggling Leominster team last night and was able to control the play from puck drop until the final buzzer Jackson Allaire got his first start in net and stopped all 7 shots he faced earning his first career shutout. Jason Flaherty got the Mountaineers started when he took a feed from Dennis Jardine and ripped one past the goalie at 8:07 of the first. Flaherty would return the favor on the last goal of the night in the third period sliding a pass across the front of the net where Jardine banged it home. Xavier McManus picked up an assist on that goal as well. Clark Gardula scored his 4th and 5th goals of the season. The first was a rebound goal that put Wachusett up 2-0 in the first. Nick Brousseau and Stone Lane assisted on the tally. Gardula’s second goal was a short-handed bid late in the 2nd period in which he blocked a shot at the point, collected the puck in the neutral zone and went in on a breakaway where he deked the goalie for an unassisted score putting Wachusett up 6-0. Seniors Aidan Riley and Andrew Joslyn both scored their first career goals last night. Riley would put the team up 3-0 in the first period. After a deflected shot the puck was up in the air, Riley crashed the net and knocked the puck out of the air into the back of the net. Just two minutes later, Joslyn would net his first goal on a wrister from the point off a feed from Braeden McKenzie. Joslyn’s goal was at 14:38 of the first period putting Wachusett up 4-0 after 1. Riley would score a second goal on the night taking a pass from Joslyn and walking in on the right side where he wristed a shot over the goalies glove, putting Wachusett up 5-0.
