Caledonia, MI — The Scots dropped game one of the doubleheader against Grand Haven in a 19-9 loss on Tuesday. The Scots and Grand Haven each collected 14 in the high-scoring affair. Grand Haven opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Grand Haven. Grand Haven added on and opened up at 10-1 lead after the top of the third inning. Caledonia battled back with four runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the forth inning to get back in the game only trailing two heading into the fifth with a 11-9 score. Grand Haven put the game out of reach by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning. Caledonia offensive came from singles by Derek Pennington, Nick Slater, Alex Skibinski, and Tommy Clarey. Nick Slater took the loss on the mound for Cal, while Andrew Render, Zack Maurer, and Carter Born each contributed in relief for the Scots. Szabo, Skibinski, Smith, Slater, Douglass, and Pennington each collected two hits to lead Caledonia.
