Rochester, MI — The Adams Freshman team took a bad loss today in the pouring rain against Stoney Creek. In the first half, the Highlanders struggled to run the ball against the Cougars, and struggled to stop the Cougars run. It didn't help that the Highlanders lost their star running back due to an injury in the first 8 minutes of play. But even still, it would have seemed more like an even match if it weren't for three Highlander fumble turn-overs, and a 53 yard punt return touchdown the Highlanders allowed. And it would have seemed more like a fair game if it weren't for the fact that one of those so-called fumbles was clearly forced by the ground AFTER both knees already spent some time on the ground. An absolutely horrible call that resulted in a Cougar touch down. The Highlanders called only one pass play the entire first half, and it resulted in a QB sack. The Cougars called only one pass play, and it resulted in a pick. At the end of the first half, the score was 26-0 with the rain still pouring down. In the second half, the Highlanders came out a little more effective at stopping the cougars, but couldn't quite overcome the Cougars defense. Fumbles continued to be a problem for the Highlanders, but the Cougars took their turn losing control of the ball too. There's no doubt that the heavy rain was a factor. There was only one pass play in the second half, attempted by the Highlanders, but it was knocked down by a Cougar. The whole game was pretty much just a ground game, and it ended with a final score of 33-0. As lopsided as this score appears, I am pretty sure Adams would win in a rematch, especially if played on a sunny day with their fastest runner back to health.
