Sutherlin, OR — Another battle for CCHS as the ladies fell to a strong, large, and athletic Sutherlin team. Sutherlin’s ability to defensively push our midfielders and forwards off the ball and blast it over the top to their incredibly fast forwards, was a challenge. Defensively and in the goal with Josie Scaglione, the Challenger ladies cleared ball after ball and prevented several goals. With an emphasis on control and possession with midfielder Aubrey Hess, Jordynn Jones, Maddie Winters, and Mae Ferreira, the Challengers actually passed better than Sutherlin, but couldn’t convert the several chances they created. Mae Ferreira and Amelia Vanlandingham in center back sacrificed their bodies over and over again against the powerful Sutherlin team, and still they continued to get back up. We knew what we were walking into and gave 80 minutes of hard dedicated play. Each of these girls are right on the cusp of breakthrough. So incredibly close to getting our chances on goal to score. We are playing soccer at a great level and nearly reaching the potential we have. Saturday we face another tough rivalry with St. Mary’s where the girls come ready to give it their all.
