Portland, OR — On a rare hot Saturday afternoon in October, our lady Challengers faced their rivals in what we knew would be a tough match. Within the beginning two minutes, the skill of St. Mary's central midfield was on display as they passed and dribbled through the lines to score. They came ready to play and capitalized in the first half on our defensive errors and poor clearances. Josie Scaglione had seven incredible saves in goal on the day with center backs Mae Ferriera and Amelia Vanlandingham blocking dozens of kicks with their bodies. While St. Mary's was able to get five into the net on the day, the Challengers played well overall keeping pace and creating their chances. We saw three great efforts on goal that were inches from converting from forward Angelica Arce, forward Emma Coats, and midfielder Jordynn Jones - whose shot and follow up hit off the post. We hold our heads high and look forward to the games ahead as we face Lakeview and Lost River - two teams we've faced previously that we were close to beating.
