Medford, OR — In a rematch at home, CCHS soccer ladies were able to bring home the win after a nerving 80 minutes. Going into the game, the Challenger ladies were ready to play, yet it took awhile to get settled and control the game against the aggressive Lakeview honkers. After some clever ball movement and attacking cuts, Jordynn Jones found herself breaking through the defensive line down the center from a through ball passed by Emma Coats. Then, after pulling it back to keep possession, she assisted Coats who followed up behind, at the top of the box who blasted it into the net. A few minutes later Lakeview had a lucky break after a rainy slippery ball made it by three CCHS defenders for a breakaway and score on goal. After halftime however, CCHS wore Lakeview down, making it past Lakeview's very high defensive line on several occasion. When Lakeview tried to pass it out of their defensive third, Maddie Winters pressured the ball and won it. She was able to immediately feed Angelica Arce in the center forward position who got past the defense again, and scored. Having a won goal lead can be dangerous however, as the coach for Lakeview encouraged his team saying they had nothing to lose and to go for it. The battle continued nearly another 30 nervous minutes until Arce again drove up the middle and was pulled down from behind at the top of the box. Mae Ferreira was called up to take the direct free kick and beautifully struck it past the wall and into the top corner for our third goal! Overall, the Challengers played great and took some good knocks to earn their win. We are super proud of these girls and how much they've grown and continued to be better and better. Thursday we are away at Lost River for a late game where we hope to keep the streak alive.
