Huntington Beach, CA — Foothill met Santa Ana Valley for the first time this year. We had previously played each other in Summer league but chose different options for summer plans and hadn't seen each other in a season or two. Many players from the roster were injured or missing and the remaining players banded together and fought as a team. Unfortunately, the Knights started off slow again, allowing 2 quick goals in the first 8 minutes. Devin Orozco answered with a cool finish after a Herculean effort by Garrett Zehner for the assist. The Falcons led the Knights 2-1 going into the halftime break. The Knights came out groggy, clearly tired from the high quantity of games in a short period of time and were scored on because of a poor defensive showing. Zehner took the game onto his shoulders when the Knights appeared as though they were giving up. He scored a banger of a goal from 25 yards out, bending over the keeper's head. Foothill kept fighting and in the last minute of the contest and literally the last play, Lucas Regan connected with Mitch Sampson for the equalizer. It was amazing. I appreciate the JV players that came to help Varsity - they played their hearts out. Baptism by fire! We are only as strong as our weakest link and this team is taking shape.
