Westborough, MA — Wachusett has been playing in the Boro's Cup for over 30 years and the battles with Algonquin have always been closely contested. Tonight was no different. At the 8:43 mark of the first period, Jason Flaherty skated down the right side and fired a low hard shot that the goalie made a toe save on. Brother Ryan Flaherty picked up the rebound, slid it across the front of the net where Cody Penniman banged it home putting Wachusett up 1-0. Algonquin would tie the score at the 12:28 mark of the 2nd period and the game stayed in a 1-1 deadlock until just 10 seconds left in the game. Parker Meyer forechecked hard behind the Algonquin net forcing a turnover where Jason Flaherty picked up the puck and centered it to Penniman who slammed it into the back of the net for the 2-1 win, sending Wachsuett to the Boro's Cup Finals. Freshman Kevin Shaw played outstanding in net stopping 21 of the 22 shots he faced, earning his first career victory as a Mountaineer.
