Hazleton, PA — From the Standard Speaker Freshman Kaitlyn Bindas scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter and Alexis Remold added nine more in the third quarter as Hazleton Area pulled away from Lake-Lehman for a 56-32 victory in the opening round of the Lady Cougar Tip-off Torunament, Friday night, at Hughie McGeehan Gymnasium. The Black Knights trailed only 12-11 after the opening quarter behind Ella Wilson’s nine points. But Bindas heated up in the second period and fellow freshman Sophia Benyo contributed another six points as Hazleton Area outscored the visitors 16-7 to take a 28-18 halftime lead. Reimold sparked the Lady Cougars’ 14-9 advantage in the third quarter as their lead swelled to 15 by quarter’s end. With Kayla Lagowy putting in eight of her 15 points, Hazleton Area added a 14-5 run in the final period to win going away.
