His demeanor was good. He’s not an overpowering pitcher, but he has good movement on his pitches and he was locating especially well today.” Bittle said Phillips hurled a combined no-hitter with graduated senior Peyton Bittle last year. This one, however, was all his doing. “The key was that Brady was throwing that first pitch for a strike,” Bittle said. “Of the 23 batters he faced (he walked two), he was ahead on the count 17 times. We needed a bounce-back win after Wednesday’s loss at Marion and Brady made that happen today. It was the perfect outing at the perfect time.” Carterville scored one run each in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Drew Barrington paced the offense with two hits in three at bats. Rapping out one hit apiece were Tyler Jack, Payton Van Horn, Logan Ingle and Aidan Swallers. Now 3-2 overall, the Lions next play Monday at Du Quoin. A-J, now 3-4 overall, plays at Steeleville Friday and at Marion Saturday.
