Redwood City, CA — Prior to the game vs El Camino, Sequoia Girls Basketball celebrated 7 Seniors (6 players and 1 manager): Teresa Alvarez, Mikayla Gee, Jenna Sichlinger, Blessing Taimani, Grace Johnson, Josie Ollmann, and Grace Viscarra. The Senior Night Ceremony was filled lots of hugs, gifts, smiles, and memories made. Sequoia's starting lineup of Seniors Mikayla Gee, Jenna Sichlinger, Blessing Taimani, Grace Johnson, and Josie Ollmann set the tone for the night, scoring 7 points and holding El Camino to 0 points in the first 3 minutes. A Teresa Alvarez assist to Jada Crockett for 3 then another 3 by Jocelyn Bracamontes closed out the 1st Quarter with Sequoia up 13-0. In the 2nd, it was Desi Huffer dazzling inside with her fancy footwork for 4 points and another 3-pointer by Josie Ollmann. Sequoia took a 20-7 halftime lead. In the 3rd, Sequoia's gritty, grind it out defense held El Camino to 1/11 shooting and forced 5 turnovers. In the 4th, Sequoia put it's finishing touches on a great PAL season, holding El Camino to a total of 13 points all game. Every Sequoia player that subbed on, flooded the floor with their defensive energy and effort. Josie Ollmann led the team in scoring with 10 points. Grace Johnson finished +18 for Sequoia while collecting 8 rebounds. Mikayla Gee had 6 points, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds. Sequoia finished as co-champions of the PAL Ocean Division with an 8-2 record. They held PAL opponents to 27 points per game with their stifling, half court defense. Sequoia has qualified for CCS Playoffs and was selected as the #11 seed in the Division 1 Girls Basketball Bracket. Sequoia hosts Leigh (San Jose) on Friday (2/16) night at 7pm. Come out and support your Sequoia Girls Basketball team for their final home game. If Sequoia wins on Friday, they will travel to Fremont (Sunnyvale) on Saturday night for a game at 7pm.
