Swiftwater, PA — Freedom Patriots came into their matchup on Monday against Pocono Mountain needing a win after dropping their last two games. Freedom got on the board first in the top of the second after Horvath lined one to left scoring Suarez. The Pates proceeded to add another run to make it 2-0 after Sweitzer doubled to center field scoring Cobb. Horvath got the start on the mound for Freedom putting in Yeoman’s like work with 6 innings pitched, giving up 2 runs, on 8 hits, and 5 strikeouts. This left the game all tied going into the seventh inning at 2 a piece. Freedom then took out their old school baseball play book to perfectly executed their top half of the seventh inning. Sweitzer continued his good day at the plate with lead off walk, followed by a Suarez sacrifice bunt, and a Phillips sacrifice fly scoring Sweitzer. Freedom took their 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh as they turned to Kullman to close it out. Now this did not goes as planned but Kullman beared down and said we are not giving up this lead. Kullman walked the lead off batter, gave up a line drive single, and then a bunt single to load the bases with no one out. With the tying run 90ft away, the walk off winning run at second, and the possibility of giving up another late lead… That’s when Kullman flipped the switch and just started pumping the strike zone getting the next batter to pop out on the infield followed by striking out the next two batters both with strike three looking to end the game. Great win for the Pates as they look to take this momentum into Wednesdays matchup at Easton against the Rovers.
