Bethlehem, PA — Another cold day in April saw your Freedom Patriots take on Whitehall Saturday afternoon. The Patriots and Zephyrs took turns putting pressure on each other over first 4 innings offensively. But, neither could get the big hit in the key spot until Phillips came up in the 5th inning with Peluso on first and took one over the right field wall to put Freedom up 2-0. Horvath got the start and kept Whitehall off balance while pitching out of trouble in numerous occasions over his 5 innings pitched. He scattered 4 hits while only walking 2 and striking out 5. Heineman came in in relief and worked around an error and a walk to retire the Zephyrs in the 6th inning. The Pates could not manufacture an insurance run in the bottom half of the 6th after having runners on 1st and 2nd so that left it up to defense to finish the job. Heineman came out strong again retiring the lead off man on a ground out to Ledee for the first out and getting the second batter to hit a ground ball to 3rd base. Unfortunately, errors continue to plague the infield and instead of 2 out, no one on, it turned into 1 out, man on first. Heineman continued to battle getting a strikeout to leave runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs. A hit, another error, close play at the plate, and a line drive over the right fielders head turned a 2-0 lead into a 2-4 deficit. Freedom fought back in their last at bats scoring a run after a double by Suarez and a Walker RBI. But that would be it as the Pates came up 90ft short from tieing the game. The boys will get right back to work on Monday as they take on Bethlehem Catholic.
