San Juan Capistrano, CA — This was a late added match to help their coaching staff get a few more matches for their JV team, as there are no JV teams in their current league. We ended up w 15 available players, so 12 got to play 2 full sets, w 3 others playing 1 set. The Tartans had 3 pretty strong singles players who won 6 of 9 sets. Leo Merage was able to defeat their top singles player in the opening round, the only guy to do so. Jack Straub beat their #2 player in round 1, while Zach Moncur beat their #2 player in round 2. A BIG Shout Out to Brayden Castro who fought back from 1-5 to force a tie-breaker against their #2 player in round 2. Great effort! With more team depth, we were able to win 7 sets of doubles to squeak out the 10-8 victory. The trio at line #1 won all 3 sets earning MVP honors for their efforts: Gianni Rossetti, Robert Schweitzer and Anson Albertson. Well done guys. We picked up 2 sets at line 2: Jason Do, Noah Nguyen and Stirling McLaughlin. Noah won both his sets for MVP honors. At line #3, we also took 2 sets, w MVP honors for Omar Ali who won both sets played, one each with Nick Benham and the other w Micah Verburg. Doubles stepping up is a testament to the work these guys have been putting in. Earlier in the season, our victories and losses were lopsided w few doubles wins. Great job today. Next up: Friday, April 12th, home courts vs SMCHS, 3pm.
