Westlake Village, CA — The Laguna Beach Breakers, coming off their first victory of the season, traveled north to Thousand Oaks to take on the Westlake Warriors. The Warriors looked like they had struck first with a long pass to their big tight end. But an offensive pass interference play set the Warriors back with third and long, eventually forcing them to punt. Laguna drove the ball down to the Warriors 2 yard line and on fourth down quarterback Jack Hurst found his favorite receiver, Brady Stringham, open for a 2 yard touchdown pass. The Breakers forced a three and out on the Warriors next possession. Again with runs by Charlie Christian and passes by Jack Hurst the Breakers drove the ball to the Westlake 6 yard line. And again Hurst found Stringham this time for a 6 yard touchdown giving Laguna a 14 to nothing lead. On the Warriors ensuing possession from their own 25 yard line their quarterback threw a swing pass to his left and the back was able to break tackles and move the ball all the way down field for a 75 yard touchdown play. Laguna did not have much success on their next possession and were forced to punch the ball back to Westlake. The Warriors drove the ball inside the 20 yard line and their quarterback found a receiver open for a 16 yard touchdown pass tying the score at 14. Charlie Christian, Laguna’s leading ball carrier, was unable to play in the second half. Already missing Bobby Gardner and Carl Mousally Laguna turned to William Golden to carry the ball for them. Laguna started with the ball in the second half, but couldn’t sustain a drive and punted the ball to Westlake. The Warriors drove it into the red zone but their 28 yard field goal went wide right. Laguna did the same on their next possession, driving the ball into the Warriors red zone, but Brady Stringham was successful on his field goal attempt give Laguna the lead again. Westlake scored again late in the third quarter, on a 7 yard passing catch to their big tight end, giving them the lead for the first time in the game. Laguna went three and out on the next possession and the Warriors started close to midfield. A few plays later Westlake converted on a 6 yard touchdown pass in increasing their lead to 28 to 17. With time as a factor Laguna started to drive on their own 20 when Jack Hurst found Luca Guzman for a long completion to the Warriors 17 yard line. Later Hurst was able to find Will Kimball for a touchdown pass cutting the lead to 28 to 23. Laguna attempted and was successful on an onside kick. With passing by Jack Hurst and running by Will Kimball Laguna drove the ball to the Warriors 7 yard line however Laguna was unable to convert the drive into points. The Warriors took over on downs and ran the clock out for a final score of 28 to 23 in favor of Westlake. It was another hard-fought battle for Laguna with many players stepping in to replace people who were unable to compete. Xavier Brooks played running back and did a outstanding job at it. James Nugent played linebacker alongside Liam Nassour, both playing outstandingly.
