Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown Nighthawks Varsity fought back after falling down by six runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in an 8-7 defeat to Notre Dame Catholic on Friday. Newtown Nighthawks Varsity scored seven runs in the failed comeback. Katie Goyda, Brianna Pellicone, Morgan Melillo, Goyda, and Melillo picked up RBIs to lead the rally. Newtown Nighthawks Varsity collected eight hits and Notre Dame Catholic had seven in the high-scoring affair. Notre Dame Catholic got on the board in the first inning. Notre Dame Catholic scored three runs when Tiff Suporn homered. Newtown Nighthawks Varsity had eight hits in the game. Goyda, Melillo, and Pellicone all managed multiple hits for Newtown Nighthawks Varsity. Goyda led Newtown Nighthawks Varsity with three hits in four at bats. MacQuarrie Stone-Folmar went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Notre Dame Catholic in hits.
