San Juan Capistrano, CA — Avenging an earlier season loss, JSerra defeated the visiting Chargers this afternoon by a score of 10-8. Down 8-6 early in the 3rd round, the JV Lions won the last 4 sets in a row to secure the victory! Thanks Varsity Senior Danny Day who led the JV team in prayer, followed by a rousing R-O-A-R (or “Lions on 3!) to send them off to battle. This was much appreciated by the JV players, as they were playing a team we had previously lost to - without our top singles player, Luke Krolikowski, who moved up to the varsity team for the day. Blowing a chance to take a 5-1 lead in the first round by dropping 2 tie-breakers, this match was tied 3-3 after round 1, and 6-6 after round 2. Regardless, we played our entire bench (as did their Coach Melody) so the match was very rewarding - getting our 2nd win of the year with everybody getting into the action. MVP Honors today go to those who won 100% of sets played: singles players Kenny Perez (3 for 3!) and Noah Nguyen (2 for 2). In doubles, a BIG WELL DONE to MVP Ronan McKeagney who got his first set victory of the season (better late than never!) with the help of Parker Gibson in round #1, followed by the most crucial set of the match in the final round - a must win with Logan Lebsack. (We probably would have won on game count, but it’s always nice to win outright.) Next match: at SMCHS this Friday, April 30th, 3pm.
