Pucellville, VA — This weeks game was a Sunday matchup vs a very good team in the Loco War Eagles. A team which has a reputation of being well coached, players are fundamentally sound and they come to play football. A good test for the boys as we look to continue to move forward this spring and improving as a team. A team which this week did not have a particularly good week of practice at all. It definitely tested the patience of the coaches. We are a travel team and this game was in Loudon Co. Va. A trip that was a little over an hour away. The trip there it was complete silence on the bus as the focused kicked in and the game day mentality started. The boys were locked in and ready to prove something with this game. Ready to establish themselves as one of the top teams in the region and beyond. The first half of the game seemed to fly by as both teams seemed to be feeling each other out. A defensive battle from the opening whistle. Neither team was able to establish much offense in the first half as the two sides traded field position back and forth. The defenses made key stops on both teams. Missed opportunities again saw us not get into the end zone. Right before the half, we made an interception that turned into a pick 6, or so we thought. The touchdown was called back because of a blindside/ crack back block after the interception. A block made by one of our most aggressive players. The kid plays with everything he has on the filed and he was simply trying to help his team score. This is where we get better as a team, coaches must adjust to the revised rules now and teach our players to achieve the same block, minus the possibility of a flag. If that situation was to occur again the players will be prepared to do it correctly. After going into half time with the score tied 0-0, and adjustments were made by the coaching staff. The boys came out in the second half ready to dominate on both sides of the ball. We took the opening possession of the second half down the field at will and finally punched it in on offense to give us a 6-0 lead after a botched extra point attempt. The defense dominated the second half allowing little to no yards and maybe just a few first downs. The offense continued to pound the the ball down the at will as we scored one more time through the air. The boys imposed they will on LoCo the whole second half and pretty much did what they wanted to do. It was a dominating effort against a very good team. The game ended with the score being 14-0. As both teams afterwards showed nothing but respect for one another. The players congratulated one another, prayed together afterwards and wished each other luck the rest of the season. The opposing coach had nothing but high praises for the boys as well, mentioning how well they played the second half and how well they conducted themselves as football players. The coach was impressed at how in the second half when his team ran out of gas, our boys were still going strong. This game should go a long way mentally for the boys seeing how they can truly dominate good teams with effort and focus, this is a special group of kids with the potential to be great on the field as well as off the field when focused. Our goal is to get better every week and build off the success of winning. The goal is to not lose another game this spring and get the Barry Farm name recognized nationally. I believe we are well on our way to accomplishing this goal.
