Ashley Stokes finished with 11 points (7 goals, 4 assists) to lead the Foothill girls lacrosse to a 22-14 road victory over Mater Dei team on Saturday. The win leaves the Knights undefeated (13-0) with two weeks to play in the regular season and marks the first time the Knights have beaten the Monarchs since 2014.

The game was as close as 15-13 with 10 minutes left to play before Foothill closed out the game with a 7-1 run.

“We really had to do some work to put some goals in the back of the net and once it came down to the end of the game, it really just came down to playing our game,” Knights coach Cristina Johnson said.

The Knights showed off their offensive depth with scoring contributions from Peyton Puma (5g), Brooke Williams (4g), Andie Pomeroy (2g), Elena Torres (2g) and Ava Brand (1g) supplementing Stokes’ output. Lilly Kahn was solid between the pipes with seven saves.

It was the first meeting between the two teams since Mater Dei beat Foothill 12-11 in overtime in last May’s County semi-final. Stokes said the Knights were so motivated that the team had “fire in their souls.”

“They [Foothill] were pumped up, but I also think have a real sense of peace and calm on this team knowing that if we just play out game, we’re good to go,” Johnson said.
