Rancho Cucamonga HS Mock Trial Fundraiser

To raise money for supplies, transportation, an assistant coach stipend (two accommodate the two teams) and other needs that may arise (hotel costs/flights if moving on to state or national).

About Us

We are Rancho Cucamonga's San Bernardino County Finalist Mock Team. We have two different teams: Purple and Silver made up of 17 students per team. Each school is assigned one or two professional attorney coaches to help the students learn the legalities of court and the techniques and strategies on how to be an effective trial lawyer or witness. The team works together on a (mock) case that is given to us by the state in September and then works together to develop both sides of the case. Students are assigned roles as a witness or lawyer on either the side of the prosecution or defense. The students then continue to work together reading the material that is provided (case brief, fact situation, witness statements and evidence) and analyze all of it for its strengths and weaknesses which later help secure theory of the case. Throughout the season, prior to competition we meet after school to continue to create a common theme for each angle of the case, write direct and cross-examination questions as well as opening and closing statements. Once these items are written, it is then put together like a script and we then present it (like a play or real trial) in the order of a trial. The team also has students that act in the supporting staff roles of the bailiff and clerk as well as lawyers that only work on the pre-trial element of the case, which addresses the legalities of the submission of evidence against other real court cases. The teams later compete against other high school teams once a week in November at real courthouses. Professional judges and lawyers then adjudicate the case and give scores which later help the team either win or lose their trial. There are a total of four trials (each side competes two times) and the four teams with the best records of the season will move on to semifinals and then finals. The county winner will then move on to state finals and compete against the winning teams of each county and the final winner will move on to nationals to compete against the winning team of each state.
