Coach Willoughby is a former high school All-American and Hall of Fame collegiate athlete who competed in cross-country and track & field at Coppin State University ( an HBCU in Baltimore, MD ). Professionally Coach Willoughby is a veteran English teacher at Mallard Creek HS with 25 + years of experience. Jelani Braziel

Coach Jelani Braziel is entering his ninth season with the Mallard Creek Men’s Track and Field program. He currently works with the Mid/Long Distance runners on the team. Coach Jelani is a former "Creek Boy", having been a member of the Track and Field Team all four years of high school as well as being named Captain his senior year. He also was a member of the Men's Cross Country team during his time at Mallard Creek. After graduation, Coach Jelani accepted a scholarship to run Cross Country for Winston-Salem State University where he was a standout performer and one of the team captains. In 2016, Coach Jelani returned to his alma mater as coach working with the long sprints. In 2017, he coached the 4x400m relay to a State Championship and breaking the school record in the process. He has coached numerous athletes to success at the conference, regional and state levels. Coach Jelani hopes to progress the distance program to becoming a powerhouse on the state level and helping athletes achieve their individual goals both athletically and personally.

I have 20 years of coaching experience on the high school and collegiate levels. I am a former student athlete at the University of Florida under head coach Michael Holloway (team captain 2002-2003). All SEC competitor and NCAA indoor qualifier (ranked Top 60 in the world in 2003); and a Junior All-American in 1999.
