Picking Each Other Up: Hawk Sluggers Get Contributions From Throughout Lineup (By Andy Hutchison of The Newtown Bee)
Sandy Hook, CT — Perhaps more than in any other sport, baseball requires clutch contributions from different individuals on any given day. With a batting lineup of nine hitters and a pitching rotation of a handful of hurlers, along with a relief corps, not to mention bench players, there is no telling who will come through from one contest to the next. For Newtown High School’s baseball team, this has been all the more prevalent with some younger and bench players stepping in — and stepping up — in the absence of starters put due to injury and illness.

Excellent Pitching Results in 1-0 Loss (By Andy Hutchison of the Newtown Bee)
Redding, CT — In an April 26 contest, Newtown again got two of the three facets of the game in which they strive to succeed, playing errorless ball and getting stellar pitching from David Braun, but fell short 1-0 at Joel Barlow of Redding as Matt Scott silenced Newtown’s normally hot bats in a 1-0 Falcons’ win. Braun struck out 11 and allowed six hits and one walk in his six innings of work.

Sandy Hook, CT — The Nighthawks looked to carry some momentum into an April 19 home matchup with Pomperaug of Southbury and pulled out a 4-3 walk-off win in eight innings. It was a walk-off in more ways than one, as Zander Kasbarian walked with the bases loaded to force home Tavar.
