Woodbridge, CT — It is on to the Class LL State Tournament quarterfinals for the Newtown High School girls’ volleyball team. The No. 11 Nighthawks went to No. 6 Amity of Woodbridge and won 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17) in the second round on November 11.

Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team had just a couple of nights to move on from its hard-fought conference tournament championship match setback with the start of the Class LL State Tournament on November 8. The host and No 11 seed Nighthawks defeated No. 22 Manchester 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-16) in the first round.

Bethel, CT — There was only one team in the South-West Conference that Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball squad could not overcome this fall. In the November 6 conference tournament championship match, the Nighthawks came oh so close to topping unbeaten and top-seeded Weston. The second-seeded Hawks won the first and fourth games but fell to the Trojans 3-2 (26-28, 25-12, 26-24, 16-25, 15-12).

Sandy Hook, CT — In the process of extending its winning streak to five matches, Newtown High School’s volleyball team made it four straight decided in the minimum three sets. The Nighthawks, after blanking Bunnell of Stratford on October 4, took care of business against Bethel two days later, then bested visiting Notre Dame 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-17) on October 8, and went on the road to defeat New Milford 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 26-24) on October 12.
