Carterville Girls and Boys Compete at Sectionals
Olney , IL — The Carterville girls punched their ticket to the State Cross Country meet in Peoria this upcoming weekend after a stellar performance at the Olney 2A Sectional. Carterville placed 3rd overall, falling only to top ranked Chatham Glenwood and Rochester. Molly Robertson raced to a 2nd place finish in 18:03 for the 3 mile course, followed by teammates Lyla Seaman in 20th place (19:03) and Laney Sambursky in 28th place (19:23). Carterville’s final 2 scoring runners, Dani Williamson and Marcela Wood, had to maneuver around runners throughout the race to cross the finish line in 56th (20:18) and 71st (20:44) place respectively. Lillian Carsrud (21:26) and Liesel Balmforth (22:10) also competed for the Lions, both setting PR’s for themselves in the process. There were 138 total runners.

Carterville Cross Country Teams Shine at IHSA 2A Regional Meet
Carbondale, IL — The Carterville High School cross country teams turned in impressive performances at the IHSA 2A Regional meet held in Carbondale at the SIU cross country course on Saturday. In the 5,000m race, the Lady Lions took second place behind Waterloo, while the boys' team secured sixth place, with both teams earning a ticket into the IHSA Sectional meet in Olney this weekend.

DuQuoin, IL — In an impressive display of grit and determination, the Carterville Girls Cross Country team secured their second consecutive Southern Illinois River-to-River (SIRR) Ohio Division Cross Country Conference title. The championship meet saw Carterville edge out Murphysboro by a narrow margin of just 4 points.

Strong Performances at Peoria Invitational
Peoria, IL — The great weather and a well manicured course at Detweiller Park in Peoria IL set the tone for some strong performances for the Carterville cross country teams who competed at the Peoria High School Invitational this weekend. The Carterville girls earned a 9th place finish out of 33 teams and the boys grabbed 16th among 34 teams.

West Frankfort Redbird 6+
West Frankfort, IL — The Carterville Lions boys' and girls' team dominated the Redbird 6+ meet and both teams came out winners. The boys team won the meet and overpowered the rival Pinckneyville Panthers by 18 points. August Anderson was 2nd overall with a speedy 16:03 just behind the winner, Landen Bowman of Pinckneyville. Soon after, the scoring pack of Carterville boys came through with Reece Scott leading them. He finished in 6th with a time of 17:07, followed by James Samples in 7th (17:14), Rowan Beyke in 8th (17:25) and Mason Webb in 10th (17:35). The final two scoring runners were close behind the pack with Nick Korte coming across the finish line in 18:12 and Nick Wilhelm in 18:23, good for 16th and 19th place finishes respectively.

West Frankfort Invite 9-12-2024
West Frankfort, IL — Carterville Lions were in action this past Thursday, Sept 12, at the West Frankfort Redbird Invitational. The varsity girls team started their race conservatively, but by the one mile mark were well in control. Molly Robertson claimed the honors winning the race in 17:57. She was followed by teammates Lyla Seaman who took 2nd place and Freshman Laney Sambursky in 4th. The other scoring Carterville runners, Dani Williamson and Marcela Wood, didn’t mess around and were 9th and 10th overall. Lillian Carsrud and Leina Jaimet rounded out the varsity squad with a 21st and 25th finish respectively. The Lions tallied 26 points for their 1st place finish. DuQuoin was 2nd with 91 points. West Frankfort grabbed 3rd place with 110 points followed by Herrin with 150.

Carbondale HS Invitational 9/7/24
Carbondale, IL — Carterville High School kicked off their cross country season at the Carbondale HS Cross Country Invite on Saturday, Sept. 7. The girls team placed 2nd overall behind the State ranked Anna-Jonesboro squad. Carterville had their top 5 girls across the finish line before the 22nd runner could finish. Molly Robertson won the meet overall finishing the 3.05 mile course in a quick 18:55. The next closest competitor was almost a minute behind her. The other 4 Carterville runners in scoring positions were: Lyla Seaman - 8th, Laney Sambursky - 14th, Dani Williamson - 20th, and Marcela Wood - 21st. Veteran runners Lillian Carsrud, Liesel Balmforth and Leina Jaimet finished 6th - 8th for the squad respectively. This race allowed unlimited runners so all girls competed in the same race and Carterville represented the biggest squad with 16 girls. Landry Crain, Isabella Dion, Aubrey Baldi, Kylie Davey, and Zi Zhang all ran their first ever HS meet and set PR’s for themselves. Veteran runners Ava Szczeblewski, Connie Xiao, and Aubrey Bahr also competed.
