The JSerra Track and Field teams began their navigation along the “Road to State” on Saturday at the CIF-SS Division 3 preliminaries at Yorba Linda High. Lions senior Georgia Jeanneret prepared for her title defense in the 800m, as she turned in fastest qualifying time with a 2:12.61 two-lap clocking. Sophomores Anne Elise Packard (2:14.42) and sophomore Chloe Elbaz (2:15.36) also advanced. Junior Brynn Garcia (4:55.90) turned in the second fastest qualifying time in the 1600m. Packard, the defending division champion, also advanced with a time of 4:58.00. Sophomore Maya Woolforde, the reigning 400m champion, had the second-best time of qualifying action (57.09). She also leaped to a finals-qualifying distance of 17 feet, four inches in the long jump. Sophomore Summer Wilson (10:46.19) was the top qualifier in the 3200m. Also advancing in the 3200m were juniors Sophie Polay (10:52.73) and Garcia (11:00.23). The Lions’ 4x400 relay quartet of Jeanneret, senior Brooke O’Brien, Elbaz, and Woolforde ran to a time of 4:02.81 to advance. Senior Sophia Chiaverini, sophomore Helena Reuter, and senior Bridget Bourdon all tied for the top pole vault clearance at 11 feet. Freshman Adi Rusin also advanced with a clearance of 10 feet, six inches. Freshman Kai Beary advanced in the discus, as she was third with a throw of 121 feet, seven inches. Sophomore Molly Hogan cleared 5 feet in the high jump and will be one of 11 competitors to compete in the finals. Each of the Lions’ relay teams advanced on the boys’ side. The school-record holding 4x100m relay team of senior Aaron Auci, sophomore Ryan Hopkins, junior Matthew Valente, and senior Nick Thompson navigated the baton around the track in a time of 42.35. Juniors Connor Baumhardt and Connor Moore, along with sophomore Jack Burnett, and Valente recorded a time of 3:24.81 in the 4x400m relay. Burnett (1:57.92) qualified in the the 800m.
