Varsity wins 2-1 in a comeback vs Paola

The Tonganoxie Lady Chieftains beat Paola in a comeback win in their first round of regionals. Paola snuck a goal in with three minutes to play in the first half. Despite the score, the Chieftains dominated the first half with a total of six shots. Paola’s only shot in the first half was their goal. Evelynn Fox led the Chieftains with two shots. Miley Maxwell, Paityn Van Middlesworth, Lilli Sanders, and Marissa Dick each had one shot. In the 57th minute, Van Middlesworth found Dick for the Chieftains first goal of the evening. Less than ten minutes later, in the 64th minute, Grace Weatherford assisted Legan Caraway’s goal. Lauren Breuer recorded three total saves. Sanders led the second half with three shots. Right behind Sanders, Caraway had two shots in the second half. The Chieftains ended the game 2-1 and will play in the Regional Championship on Wednesday, May 20th, at Louisburg.

Varsity wins 2-0; JV ties 0-0

The Tonganoxie Lady Chieftains beat Kansas City Christian 2-0 on Tuesday, May 12th at home. Legan Caraway scored the Chieftains’ first goal with two minutes left in the first half with an assist by Abigail Blanka. Caraway and Marissa Dick both had two shots. Blanka, Lilli Sanders, Evelyn Fox, and Miley Maxwell each had one shot. Lauren Breuer recorded three saves. Caraway netted her second goal in the 45th minute. Caraway and Maxwell both had three shots in the second half. Sanders and Dick had two shots. Breuer and her backline of Blanka, Gemma Halsa, Olivia Butler, and Johanna Boone pulled together to end the game with a shutout. The Chieftains play their final regular season game at home on Thursday, May 14th against ranked Topeka Hayden.

Varsity loses 3-1; JV ties Eudora.

The Tonganoxie Chieftains lost 3-1 against Eudora in a physical game on Thursday, March 7th. The first half was scoreless with both teams creating goal scoring chances. Legan Caraway and Lilli Sanders led the Chieftains with two shots each. Marissa Dick and Miley Maxwell, in her comeback game, had one shot. Eudora had five shots and Lauren Breuer had two saves. Within the first three minutes of the second half, Dick scored after winning the ball off of a Eudora defender. Eudora responded quickly with a goal in the 45th minute. Two more goals for Eudora came in the 56th and 64th minute. The Chieftains kept their offensive attack but fell short. Maxwell led the second half with three shots. Sanders and Dick both had one shot. Chaynee Howell played the second half and recorded eight saves. The Chieftains play Kansas City Christian on Tuesday, May 12th, at home. They will also be celebrating their two seniors, Grace Weatherford and Johanna Boone. Senior night activities will take place before the varsity game.

The Tonganoxie lady Chieftains won against Turner 3-0. Legan Caraway scored in the 17th minute on a solo run. Lilli Sanders led the half with eight shots and Caraway had five. Chaynee Howell recorded one save. Going into the second half, the score was 1-0. The next goal came from Marissa Dick in the 56th minute. In the 69th minute, Molly Vought got fouled in the penalty area which resulted in a penalty kick for the Chieftains. Sanders took the kick and buried it to put the score at 3-0. Sanders had for more five more shots to lead the half. The Chieftains recorded 31 shots. Lauren Breuer played the second half and did not see a shot on goal. The Chieftains play again on Thursday at Eudora High School at 6:30 p.m.
