Playing from behind proves too much for Mona Shores vs Cedar Springs

A slow start proved to be the difference in a great back and forth game at Cedar Springs. It took until the 4th quarter for the Sailors to cut the lead to just 2 points with the ball but a missed 3 point shot and late turnover put the game out of reach with two seconds to go. Zay Knox led the Sailors with 16 points and Milo Barangan added 10.

Slow start too much to overcome for the Sailors.

The second quarter scoring improved but a slow start hurt the Sailor’s chances of winning versus a tough Zeeland East team. Jaeger Johnson’s late three point shot to end the second quarter cut the lead down to eight points. A good start to the 3rd quarter saw that lead cut down again to just six. But tough inside baskets by Zeeland made the difference down the stretch. Jaeger’s 11 points led the scoring for the Sailors. Ezra Carefelle added 10.

Late shot secured a big win at Zeeland West for the Sailors.

With four seconds left the Sailors had to go the length of the court to score and take the lead in a tight back and forth game at Zeeland West. A pass threw from under the basket past half court fell into the right hands at the right time for the Sailors. It proved to be an answered prayer as Ezra Carefelle caught it and passed it to Tyrese Hill for the game winner as time expired. Hill played his best game of the season scoring 16 points despite facing foul trouble which forced him to miss much of the 4th quarter. Zay Knox’s 20 points and hot shooting from three point land kept the Sailors in the game and in striking distance and Hill finished the deal. Milo Barangan also also added 8 points and played big inside blocking shots and guarding Zeeland’s best post player.

Solid defense paves the way for a home victory

Mona Shores led 12-5 after one quarter and never looked back. Playing great defense while driving the ball to the basket and getting to the foul line to shoot free throws was the formula needed to beat Grand Rapids Union Friday night at the Sailor Center. When the game was on the line the Sailors made their free throws going (10-13) in the 4th quarter and walked away with a home victory 61-44. Mikey Burr played a good all around game and led the Sailors in scoring with 12 points.
