Ionia wrestled two great duals tonight. Ionia had 2 big Wins first win over Perry 63-16 and then a win over Leslie 53-21. We were also able to give recognition to our seniors tonight Keagan Lang, Victor Ledesma, Killian Campbell, Nathan Clute, Chase Holford, and Chris Smith.
Ionia Varsity wrestling team came up short tonight wrestling 2 very tough teams Portland and Fowlerville. Ionia started the night out wrestling Portland for our League Championship Ionia lost 59 -15. there were many close matches that could of gone either way the bulldogs wrestled very tough. Killian Campbell at 144 and Hunter Barker at 150 both won by pin. Nathan Clute Had a great match were we bumped up to wrestle 175 lbs were we beat 12th ranked wrestler in the state from Portland 8-7. Ionia then went on to wrestle Fowlerville and lost 57 - 15. Nate Clute again up at 175 won his match by pin fall. Wrestlers Ricky Charon, Gabe Rogers and Chris Smith all won matches by decision.
Ionia took 2 of our girls to Fowlerville to compete at a Girls only tournament Friday night. Sarah Schafer went 1-2 on the night taking 4th place falling short in her last match to the 5th ranked girl in the state. Natalie Fassett also went 1-2 on the night. Overall the Girls had a great night of wrestling and got some good mat time. Our girls will be back on the mat in 2 weeks. We will travel to Ovid-Elsie on Friday 1/27 to compete in another Girls only tournament
Your Ionia Varsity wrestlers placed 5th out of 18 teams today at the Lakeview Wildcat invitational. Ionia took 11 wrestlers and had 5 wrestlers bring home medals. Killian Campbell was the Champion at the 144 lb weight class today going 3-0. Hunter Barker took 2nd place today at 157lbs going 2-1. Bringing home a 3rd place medal today were wrestlers Chase Holford at 190lbs going 2-1 and Wrestler Jackson Gallagher at 113 lbs going 3-1 on the day. Nate Clute at 165 also brought home a 5th place medal and went 3-1 today. Some other Bulldogs that came just short of getting a medal but still finding some success going 2-2 today were wrestlers Ricky Charon, Levi Schied, and Chris Smith. Keagan Lang also wrestled very tough today and got a win.
