Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown High School’s girls’ soccer team followed up its first setback of the season, a 3-2 loss at South-West Conference rival Bethel on October 13 with a 2-1 victory over nonconference foe Suffield on the road, two days later. The Nighthawks hosted Masuk of Monroe in another SWC contest, on Senior Night, October 18, and blanked the Panthers 2-0.

Girls’ Soccer Team Blanks Pomperaug As Hawks Get Ready For Playoffs (By Andy Hutchison of the Newton Bee)
Sandy Hook, CT — Among the handful of teams bunched together within a point of each other and vying for one of the top spots in the South-West Conference Tournament, the Newtown and Pomperaug of Southbury high school girls’ soccer teams squared off at Blue & Gold Stadium on October 25. The host Nighthawks handed the Panthers their first loss to a conference rival, 1-0, behind Bella Gerace’s first-half put-back goal. Gerace deposited a rebound, set up by Katie Rowan, and goalkeeper Ryann Heim-Sherwood made it stand up with six saves for a Senior Night victory.

Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown held off a potent Weston attack in the first half, and most of the second on September 21 in the newly refurbished Blue and Gold Stadium. With 15 minutes remaining in the contest, Weston scored on the short side off a free kick 20 yards out. Despite the loss, Newtown Head Coach Marc Kenney was pleased with his team's play.
