Gutsy Performance by Hauer Propels Spartans to 3rd League Win

Senior Max Hauer battled through adversity to lead the Spartans to a 6-3 league win over the George Washington Patriots. Hauer, making his 2nd start of the year, threw 95 pitches through 5 innings but only allowed 1 run while the Spartans built a 6-1 lead. Hauer walked 4 and gave up 4 hits, but some clutch strikeouts and a big double play kept runs off the board and allowed the offense to take advantage of a shoddy Patriots defense that committed 7 errors and a starting pitcher that battled command issues early on. Offensively TJ was led by Senior Emmanuel Wadkins who scored 2 runs and Junior Sloan Steimel who drove in his team leading 11th and 12th runs of the season.

5 Run 7th Leads Spartans to Victory

The Spartans moved to 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in conference play with an 11-4 victory over the Lincoln Lancers at All-City Stadium yesterday. The Spartans scored early and often as they plated runs in each of the first 5 innings on the way to a 6-0 lead. Owen Roetto made his first career start on the mound and held the Lancers offense in check for the first 4 innings. Lincoln loaded the bases in the bottom of the 5th inning with 0 outs and a run in as Max Hauer relieved Roetto and got a strike out and pop out. But a softly hit grounder to the right side allowed a run to score, while another plated on a throwing error on the same play. Hauer struck out the last batter of the inning to maintain a 6-3 lead. The Spartans struck for 5 runs in the top of the 7th to extend the lead to 11-3, highlighted by Sloan Steimel's 2 run triple to the right-center gap, his second 3 bagger of the game. Henry Shukert shut the game down as he pitched the last 2 innings, striking out 3 and allowing an unearned run for his first career save.

Spartans cruise to win after 7 run 1st

An offensive explosion to start the game led the Spartans to their 2nd straight win. TJ scored 7 runs in the top of the first, thanks to timely hitting and 3 walks. Jesus Flores-Sanchez led the game off with a first pitch single to start the merry go round as the Spartans scored 4 runs before recording their first out of the inning. Standley Lake responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st as Max Feierstein was a bit shaky in his first career start on the mound. But he settled in and shut down the Gators as he went 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 8. All 3 first inning runs were unearned, and the Spartans held the Gators scoreless the rest of the game on the way to an 11-3 victory. Mauricio Vivanco-Torres and Owen Roetto both made their first appearances of the season on the mound, each throwing a scoreless inning.

Spartans roll to big victory

The TJ Spartans got their first win of the 2023 campaign with an 18-3 victory over the Wheat Ridge Farmers. Wheat Ridge opened the scoring with 2 runs in the first but TJ answered with 4 runs in the second and third innings. After the Farmers scored a run in the 3rd, the game was knotted at 8-3 until a 10 run outburst in the 6th inning gave the Spartans the run rule win. Max Hauer was the winning pitcher throwing 3 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) with 5 Ks. Curtis Redfearn earned his first career save throwing the final 3 innings (1 hit, 0 runs, 7 Ks). Offensively the Spartans were led by Emmanuel Wadkins (3-4 4 RBI, SB), Sloan Steimel (3-3, 2 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Owen Roetto off the bench (2-2, RBI, 2 SB), Max Feierstein in his first career start (2-4, 3 R, 2B, RBI, 3 SB), and Jesus Flores-Sanchez (2-5, RBI).
