Preseason Tune UP Complete

Preseason Tune UP Complete

This was a preseason friendly for all the kids to figure out the season. Boys played well but did not score as many points as last years state champion runner up but for us coaches the score didn't matter it was about how they tackled and ran the ball hard throughout the game.

Final Warm-up for league matches goes well.

Final Warm-up for league matches goes well.

Taft boys came out strong in this match, against a much improved Payton/Lane side. Their passing and attacking lines looked much crisper, while maintaining their defensive intensity. A couple of smart attacks by E. Pagan and M. Gomez put early points on the board after great team attacks put us deep in Payton territory. A couple of mistakes, including a poor exit kick led to an easy score from Payton but the boys never let it affect their attacks. Strong running by Fadi and Moussa from the back of rucks along with quick stabs from Gomez and Oleska kept breaking down the defense in the first half. Second half attack was led by A. Walters who scored on two decisive runs through the defense. In all tremendous teamwork, strong tackling and running led to a great showing by Taft which will have a tough go this Thursday against Chesterton.

Boys fight hard in a close game

The first game of the season didn't start the way we would like. The boys struggled with some nerves it seemed on the first offensive possession putting the ball on the ground twice in the face of a fired up TF South defense. A fine punt by Atticus gave us some breathing room and our defense came out and matched South's intensity. Pedro Colon stood out on the defensive line but really all of the line players rotating through provided a solid push. This freed up safeties and linebackers to really put some big hits. Carmello and Fernando pushed up making some great tackles and Fernando got an interception. Our outside line backers also had a tremendous day. before a knee injury ended his day Xavian had TFL on a blitz from the week side to set up a punt. Thomas stepped up when both outside linebackers were injured on the same play and had numerous standout plays that kept the game 0-0 at half.
