Boys Fall to Glen Ellyn

Never great to look at the newspapers and see you have the 50th ranked club team that week! Especially if you are missing some key player! The boys got started a little slow and that put them behind from the first play of the game. Boys finally settled down and held strong for 20 minutes. Ahmed played amazingly at 10 leading the team and drawing attention from opposition. Sam was steady as always at number 9.

Girls kick off the season with a W!

Taft girls got off to a hot start using the foot of fly-half Leah Cahill! Leah used her foot to put pressure on the Lions/Cobra mixed club! Her kicks resulted in two beautiful tries, one by Josie O’Donnell and one by Jackie Hoffman! The opposition had some great offensive firepower but Layla And Grace made numerous great tackles on the wing! The wings also contributed on offense! Layla made an amazing offload to set up a second try by Josie and Grace took one 60 meters to dot it down between the posts! Forwards had great games as well. Julie G was all over the place and put the pressure on the fly half consistently! Making their debut Karla and Rim had numerous big carrys. Karla even earned Scottie Pippen from Coach Jamie. Lots to still work on but great to get a victory off the start!

Tough Day at the Office

Each season their is a week/ or weekend where you just end up tight on players. This was our weekend and it showed. With three varsity players out due to family commitments or sickness this was our week. We still saw some great play form lots of players. Man of the Match went to our number 10 Austin Dempsey who led the team well even in defeat. JV was in the same boat with 3 players missing so played a friendly mixing players from both teams to get better. Victor and Alejandro Fuentes put in great shifts. Freshmen Demetri Kolliopoulos is really coming into is own on offense and defense in his first year. So minus a bad score line players got better and learned some things. They also showed great heart in hosting the social after the game before La Salette got back on their buses for the ride home.

First game of the season goes to Taft!

Taft Fresh/Sophs got off to a great start with a 43-22 victory over Neuqua Valley Rugby. The first half was tight. Taft pushed over two tries, I believe Alajandro and Dax got those and Demitri made one conversion. In the second half, Taft's size really came to play. Alejandro, Alyas, Dax and Dominick wore them down with many big carries. Dominick made the second half and set up the run that happened. Navin, Alyas, Alex and Alejandro I believe all got score over in the second half and Demitri added a couple of conversions. It really was a great to see the conditioning and excitement the kids put forth in the second half. The backline was let by Victor and Alex who had some great runs and huge tackles. Freshmen backs Demetri and Sebastian both had moments to shine and Phi Lip keeps having amazing runs.
