Senior Night
Temecula, CA — The contest between the visiting Fountain Valley Baron’s and your Golden Bears would be the last home game of the regular season. That designation carried with it the added bonus of being the Senior Game. The festivities began on a brisk Thursday evening after practice with our outgoing Senior class being presented with Senior Sash’s. Aaliyah Alawneh, Emma Hilbig, Randi Johnson and Skylar Richards represent our sports first multi student-athlete graduating class. The girls proudly displayed their Sash’s on campus Friday during school.

Newport Beach, CA — Golden Bears travelled to Newport Harbor to face the Sailors. A big win here and we punch our first ever ticket into the postseason. From the early going in this contest it just wasn’t going to happen. The Sailors jumped out early and never looked back.

New faces immediate results
Temecula, CA — The Westminster Lions came into town with a mighty roar but left Temecula with only a faint Meow. In a must win game the Golden Bears came out firing on all cylinders. Westminster came out swinging claws and paws for all to see, little did they know Temecula would be the ring leader of this day. Our Senior duo of Emma Hilbig and Skylar Richards accounted for most of the scoring on the day, scoring three of the four goals in the contest. The last goal was wrung in by a new face on the team Mallory Martinezz immediately paying dividends on her first few touches on the ball. With some real aggressive play winning a 50/50 ball and driving that momentum up field she placed a solid shot on goal that beat the rushing Goal Keeper. Scoring in her first game in a Varsity Uniform, congratulations Mallory! On the flip side defensively it was another shut out on the books. The Three Amigos are now an even more formidable Quartet. As Ice Cube would say… “I got to say it was a good day”

The game within the game
Huntington Beach, CA — The rematch vs Edison… The game strategy going in was to make Edison earn everything. We were going to compress the field and frustrate them so we can explode past them on the 50/50 balls as they tired. The first have went by the designed plan flawlessly. The Golden Bear Team Defense withstood all Edison could give. The first half saw Edison get 11 Short Corners and walk away with zero goals. This is not counting the numerous other saves from our Goal Keeper throughout the period.

Stranger Things with Rivalries
Temecula, CA — The evening begun with a celebration for Chaparral’s Sr Class. The Golden Bears joined in the Festivities to honor their Sr’s in the columns of raised sticks presentation. Standing alongside the Chaparral players the girls chit-chat with one another. Interestingly enough we found out one of the girls likes to bark at opponents. Yes, bark like a dog, and it did in fact happen in the game. Part of the fun in competing against our crosstown rivals is knowing some of the other players from their pre High School years. It makes the game personal and fun.

Road trip to Marina Hs
Huntington Beach, CA — The Golden Bears traveled to Marina HS for this contest. Marina was looking to settle the score against TV. The Golden Bears made sure the outcome would be in TV’s favor. The game turned chippy early on and continued till the final Horn blew. Alyssa Aldaco was giving piggyback rides to Marina players. The extra workout only made her stronger in the end. Co-Captains Randi Johnson and Skylar Richards each scored a goal in the game enough to put the game out of reach. The victory was a big win for the Bears. Go Bears!

No longer flying under the radar
Huntington Beach, CA — Game three on the week had the Golden Bears visiting last seasons Sunset League Champions the Huntington Beach Oilers. What a game it was, the game was akin to two heavy weight boxers exchanging punch for punch. We matched if not bettered the athletic play that Huntington is known for most of the day. In a short three minute period closing out the first half we let the first of three goals sneak in. Followed by two quick hitting goals while we were recovering from the initial shock. We were treated to Shock and Awe HB style. We battled back and played hard but couldn't get our shots into the goal. After the game I talked with the HB coach and she was amazed at how well our girls played. This game we shot across the bow of the Mighty HB Battleship, next game we look to make the direct hit. While the W/L didn't fall in our favor, we learned and now know we can compete with the best the League has to offer.

Edison
Temecula, CA — Game two on a busy week had the Golden Bears matched up with the Edison Chargers from Huntington Beach. Edison arrived into town a confident and very disciplined team. It was the first time we got to witness a team play with such extreme patience and crisp passing to open receivers. Our aggressive north/south style of play we have lived by was neutralized. Our Bears played tough all game long, fighting all the way through the end. So very Proud of the effort. I want to apologize for this game, this one is on me girls. We are products of our experiences and the style of play witnessed this day was a first for me. I failed to make the needed adjustments to get us back in the contest. So I have spent the following couple of nights scheming just how to counter their game. Oh and other coaches have been ready to assist, falling into the enemy of my enemy is a friend right now. We will see them again on Oct 4th and look to return the favor on their turf.

Not all Cougars are Nocturnal
Temecula, CA — In a game under the lights, the Escondido Cougars arrived with high hopes. But once the game started that changed right away. The Golden Bears controlled the game for the most part from the start to finish. We were treated to Ella Peepgrass and Lorena Jimenez turning the field into a track meet. Scoring for the game still was tough in the first half with neither team scoring a goal. Second half was a different story as the Golden Bears could taste the smell of fear in the Cougars and relentlessly attacked the Cougars goal in the second half knocking in scores on rebounds and one big strike from Kaitlyn Christie to end the scoring on the night at 3-0 in Temecula's favor.

Sudden Victory
Temecula, CA — The Golden Bears face another fierce cat in the visiting Valley Center Jaguars. The game ended regulation all knotted up in what was a tough back and forth battle. The Golden Bears got to stretch their legs once again playing on the fast turf surface of our Stadium. This helped wear down the Jaguars leaving them with little gas in the tank once the Sudden Victory period began. It was then the Golden Bears launched a blitz on offense and the game was settled when Co-Captain Randi Johnson shot on goal over the diving Jaguar Goal Keeper. What a thrilling way to end the game it was.

Growing Game
Temecula, CA — Today didn’t go as planned. We ran into a very disciplined team that didn’t make many mistakes for us to capitalize on. The game was slow paced and it frustrated our team some. It was a very workman like performance from Bonita that chipped away at our guard. They played sound defense and repelled our offensive attack. We walk away humbled and hungry. We get to see Bonita again later in the season with a whole lot more on the line and look forward to repaying the favor :-)

Crosstown Rival Chaparral is sent packing.
Temecula, CA — Chaparral out the gates was overwhelmed early and often from the play of the Mighty Golden Bears. Before the game Kylee Host promised to tame them Pumas and that’s exactly what what she and her Teammates did. The onslaught was quick and decisive. Making it possible to give all of our reserves the opportunity to play majority of the game collecting valuable in game experience. The team handed out another shutout performance. Their third in as many games.

The tale of two half’s
El Cajon, CA — Still early in the season the game started with a long feel them out period. A stifling defense lead by Brenna Dial, Alyssa Aldaco and Kylee Host made sure no uninvited guests even reach the goal. The second period was a different game. Skylar Richards cut through the El Capitan defense with precision and it was a coming out party for Lorena Jimenez a rising Freshman.
