Troy falls to Northwood in Defensive Slugfest, 7-0

Troy falls to Northwood in Defensive Slugfest, 7-0

Troy hosted Northwood on Friday Night, in a low scoring defensive battle. The Warriors defense held Northwood to just 118 yards of total offense, and the Northwood defense countered by only allowing 143 yards of total offense. Northwood capitalized in the first half after a miscue on a Troy punt, and quickly converted the miscue into a touchdown pass. Both teams used field posession strategies to prevent the offenses from getting started, and the pressure from Northwood's defense earned the Timberwolves the victory on Thursday night.

The Warriors battled valiantly in their home opener against El Dorado (Placentia), but fell short in overtime, 21-20. Troy was stout on defense, holding El Dorado to 0 points in the opening half. Troy's Roman Arriaga connected to Aiden Spaeder for a first quarter touchdown, but the PAT was no good. In the second half, El Dorado scored on a fumble recovery to take a 7-6 lead. Arriaga and the Warriors offense drove the field, and scored on a 1 yard TD run by Arriaga. On the ensuing 2 pt. conversion, Arriaga once again found Spaeder in the end zone, to make the score 14-7. A late score by the El Dorado offense evened the score at 14-14, and both teams opted for overtime. El Dorado struck first, and kicked the PAT to make the score 21-14. Troy countered with a score of their own on a touchdown run from Shane Simpson, and opted to go for the 2 point conversion. El Dorado was able to stop the Warriors a yard short, taking away a 21-20 victory over Troy. The Warriors look to rebound this week against Northwood High School (0-1), in a home contest Thursday night at Fullerton District Stadium.
