Cedarville, OH — Game two featured another stand out pitching performance for the Cardinals and a one-run victory. Steven Hecht got the start and went 4.1 innings allowing two runs, one earned on four hits and four strikeouts. Hecht got run support early with Schweiger scoring on a wild pitch in the second and Brandon Scheurer doubling home Jeff Reseigh in the third to make it 2-0.

Cardinals Battle the Cold

Cedarville, OH — The Saginaw Valley State University baseball program wrapped up their three-game series with Cedarville University Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader in freezing temperatures. The Cardinals (5-2) took home both games with final scores of 4-3 and 3-2.

Bats Stay Hot and Take Series

Chillicothe, OH — Game two was explosive. Jatczak started with a two-run home run in the first inning as Saginaw Valley put up the first nine runs in the game. three more in the first along with four in the second including a two-RBI double by Connor Cornwell to make it 9-0. SVSU continued to put up runs while starter Chase Raymond went three innings striking out three and allowing three runs. Ben Kochany took over in the bottom of the fourth with a 12-3 lead. Kochany pitched two innings allowing three runs on four hits and while striking out two.

Jatczak Found Perfection

Chillicothe, OH — Game one started slow with the scoring opening up in the fourth. Reed Raymond doubled to right center and eventually scored on an Ethan Rose sacrifice fly to break the 0-0 tie. In the fifth, a hit batter and a walk put two on for Cicerone who tripled to center field to put SVSU up 3-0. Cicerone added one more with an RBI single in the seventh scoring Jeffrey Reseigh. Austin Schweiger followed up two batters later with another RBI single to make it 5-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Chillicothe, OH — The roles reversed in game two with the Oilers scoring in the first with an RBI double. The lead was short lived as Schweiger doubled home Jatczak to tie the game and Reed Raymond drove in Colin Cornwell with an RBI ground out for the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.

Chillicothe, OH — SVSU got on the board early in the season opener with a three spot in the bottom of the first. Austin Schweiger doubled to left field scoring Colin Cornwell and Jatczak before scoring on an error later in the inning to make it 3-0.

SVSU takes down rival Northwood

Midland, MI — The home of the Great Lakes Loons in Midland, Michigan housed the Saginaw Valley Cardinals and the Northwood Timberwolves Tuesday night for the third annual Dow Diamond Classic. The game between these two at Dow Diamond has not always gone off without a hitch. The games were cancelled in 2011 and 2022 due to weather, and 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the April air was chilly, there wasn't any precipitation and nine innings were played without an issue. Saginaw Valley took the close game with a final score of 5-4 and are now 40-35 against Northwood along with a 3-0 record against the Timberwolves at Dow Diamond.

SVSU goes punch for punch again vs Davenport on the road

Grand Rapids, MI — SVSU (14-16, 6-7) got on the board first with a run in the first inning. Jaccar Watkins reached on a walk before Colin Cornwell doubled into the left center gap to score Watkins and give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. DU (14-19, 8-5) answered back in their half of the inning. Three runs on three hits, including a two-run triple gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead.

Grand Rapids, MI — Caledonia, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University continued their success on Friday's with a sweep in today's doubleheader against Davenport University. The two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) wins make the Cardinals 9-0 on Friday's this season. SVSU (14-15, 6-6) won the seven-inning game 5-1 and the nine-inning contest 14-4 against DU (13-19, 7-5).
